Margaret "Mugs" Jean Kepka

Margaret Jean "Mugs" Kepka, 73, of Ellsworth, Kansas, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2026. Born on January 8, 1953, in Ellsworth, Mugs spent her entire life in the community she loved so dearly and devoted herself to serving the people who called it home.

Mugs was a familiar and beloved presence throughout Ellsworth and the surrounding communities. For many years, she worked and eventually owned the local flower shop, creating beautiful floral arrangements and bouquets that helped families celebrate life's happiest moments and honor loved ones during difficult times. She had a gift for making every arrangement personal, meaningful, and beautiful.

Her love of serving others extended well beyond flowers. Mugs fulfilled a lifelong passion for baking when she owned and operated a local bakery. She took immense pride in her baking and found great joy in sharing her creations with neighbors, friends, and visitors. Whether it was a special occasion or an ordinary day, Mugs believed good food brought people together.

A passionate supporter of Ellsworth's history, Mugs also worked at the Ellsworth Historical Museum, where she delighted visitors with stories of the town, its people, and its rich heritage. She was known for bringing history to life and helping others appreciate the unique character of the community she cherished. In recognition of her dedication and contributions, she was honored as Historian of the Year in 2025.

Mugs was known for her spirited and sometimes spicy personality, but beneath that strong exterior was a generous heart and an unwavering commitment to helping others. She loved her community deeply and was always willing to lend a hand, share a story, bake a treat, or brighten someone's day. Her kindness, humor, and dedication touched countless lives throughout Ellsworth.

She is survived by her children, Clay Sheridan, Bill Sheridan, and Becky Hopper; her grandchildren, Ethan, Tylar, Logan, and Blake; and her siblings, Rosie, Linda, Diane, Patti, Judy, and Butch. She also leaves behind many extended family members, friends, neighbors, and community members who will miss her greatly.

More than anything, Mugs will be remembered for her love of Ellsworth, her dedication to preserving its history, and the countless ways she served the people around her. Her legacy lives on in the community she helped shape and in the many lives she touched through her generosity, friendship, and service.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Ellsworth VFW.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ellsworth Historical Society in honor of Mugs' lifelong commitment to preserving and sharing the history of her beloved hometown.
