ELLSWORTH
Gerald Otto Peterman, 86, passed away Monday, May 8, 2023 in Salina, KS. He was born January 28, 1937 in Ellsworth County, KS to Otto F. and Etta C. (Sternberg) Peterman.
Gerald grew up on a farm northwest of Ellsworth and attended St. Paul’s Lutheran school in the country north of Ellsworth. He was confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and attended Ellsworth High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army after graduation and served as a crew member on a Sikorsky H-34 helicopter group in Germany. Following his tour of duty in the Army, Gerald returned to Kansas and got a job with a construction company where he met the father of his future wife, Arnette K. Thomas. Gerald and Arnette were married at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on June 7, 1964. After quitting the construction company, Gerald attended college and earned a degree in finance. He worked in Salina, KS for many years, primarily for Gamble Robinson. In his free time, he loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles. He, Arnette, and his friends attended the Sturgis Motorcycle rally in South Dakota numerous times.
Following the closing of Gamble Robinson, Gerald and Arnette moved to Ellsworth. Gerald worked numerous jobs for the City of Ellsworth.
Gerald is survived by his sister, Elaine Peterman of Cupertino, CA and brother, Keith Peterman of Fremont, CA, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Arnette Peterman, and brother, Donald Allen Peterman.
A memorial service will take place at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 15, 2023 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ellsworth.
