WILSON
Gary R. Hunter, 84, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2024 in Hays, KS. “Hunter” as he was fondly known was born June 3, 1940 in Ellsworth, KS to Harold and Harriette (Krupp) Hunter. Gary married Betty Matoush in Wilson, KS on February 23, 1963. He served in the US Army as an MP in Korea during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Wilson American Legion Post 262. Gary was also a member of the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church of Wilson and the Knights of Columbus. He retired from the US Army Corps of Engineers as a foreman after 32 years of work. In retirement, Gary and Betty enjoyed spending the last 30 years traveling the country and meeting new friends.
Gary is survived by his wife Betty Hunter of Wilson; son Michael Hunter (Debbie) of Wichita, KS; grandsons, Cameron and Logan Hunter; and nephew Roger Hunter (Karen) of Kansas City, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Linda; and brothers, Don and Robert Hunter.
