BUSHTON
Donna Marqueta Bolz, 92, passed peacefully on August 17, 2026, surrounded by love.
Born January 21, 1934, in Cheyenne, Oklahoma, to Elmer Thomas Kirk and Dorothy Irene (Lindsey) Kirk, Donna grew into a woman whose intelligence, faith, humor, and larger-than-life personality made her unforgettable.
Donna married the love of her life, George William Bolz, on April 23, 1962. Together they built a beautiful life in Bushton, Kansas, raising a family and sharing more than five decades of marriage. George preceded her in death but remained the love of her life.
A lifelong learner and gifted educator, Donna earned her Bachelor of Science (BS) from Sterling College in 1974 and her Master of Arts (MA) from Fort Hays State in 1975. She taught English and drama at Chase High School and later English Composition and Literature through Barton County Community College and Sterling College.
Donna’s faith was central to her life. A devoted member of Bushton United Methodist Church, she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, sang in the church choir alongside her children David and Deena, served in numerous leadership roles, and became a lay minister, writing sermons and filling pulpits throughout the area.
Above all, Donna loved her family. She is survived by her children, Vickie (John) Schlyer, David (Linda) Bolz, Deena (David) Mortimer, and Kristina Bolz; grandchildren Rae and Aaron Bolz; and her sister-in-law, Izora “Zoe” Bolz.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George William Bolz; her parents, Elmer Thomas Kirk and Dorothy Irene (Lindsey) Kirk; her older half-sister, Norma Jean Coffman; her sister, Delores “Dee” Williams; and her brother, Richard Thomas Kirk.
Donna loved books, music, birds, animals, travel, bingo, dominoes, and a good story. She leaves behind generations shaped by her words, faith, laughter, and unconditional love.
A celebration of Donna’s remarkable life will be held this fall at Bushton United Methodist Church, with interment to follow at Bushton Cemetery. Following the interment, a luncheon will be provided by the church in the fellowship hall. Service details will be announced once the date is finalized.
Donna was deeply loved, and she will be deeply missed.
